There was an old woman


This is one of my favorite nursery rhymes. It has an unusual rhythm and tells a whole story in a few lines:

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe
She had so many children, she didn't know what to do.
She gave them some broth,
without any bread,
Then whipped [kissed] them all soundly
And put them to bed.



Русская версия в моем переводе звучит так:

Одна странная дама жила в башмаке
У нее было столько деток, не хватит пальцев на руке
Она давала им суп,
Давала кисель,
Всех шлепала звонко,
И клала в постель.
